Frequently Asked Questions
- Is Discovery Academy accredited?
Yes. This is one of the most important questions you should ask of any private school. Discovery Academy is inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education, Field Services Branch, Private Schools and Attendance Unit every two years, last inspection was this year. Meeting the inspection requirements give Discovery Academy the right to issue OSSD credits – which are the same credits that are offered by Public Schools in the Province of Ontario. Our Ministry BSID# is 884964. This can be approved by visiting the Ministry website at:
- If I am registered as a full-time or part-time student at a public or Catholic high school, can I still take an online OSSD credit course with DA?
Yes. You can simultaneously attend our Academy and we will send the OSSD credit that you complete to the high school you attend full time. The school will then have the required documents to add the credit to your ongoing transcript of courses.
- If I am registered as a full-time or part-time student at an Ontario inspected private school, can I still take an online OSSD credit course with DA?

- If I am attending school in another province or in another country, can I still take an online OSSD credit course with DA?
Yes. You can simultaneously attend our Academy and we will send the OSSD credit that you complete to the school that you attend full time. The school will then have the required documents to add the credit to your ongoing transcript of courses.
.
- What happens to the credit earned when we take a DA course?
Discovery Academy will inform your school when you begin the course. During the Fall semester we provide a final mark on a official transcript and during Winter we provide a midterm report-card or fax the schools to your convenience. When you finish, we will prepare a final mark on the Ontario Student Transcript. The credit will then be added to your list of credits at your home school.
- Do Universities view courses taken at DA differently from those taken at bricks and mortar schools?
Discovery Academy has developed a high reputation with Universities. The owner of the school is a PhD Researcher at the University of Toronto in the field of Nanotechnology and her main goal is to prepare students to achieve success in Universities rather than simply getting in. If you call any University and ask if they accept Discovery Academy marks just as any other public school the answer will always be YES!
- What are your hidden costs?
Unlike many other schools, DA has NO hidden costs. Sometimes students do not go through OUAC when they apply to Universities. DA will communicate with three universities for free for you but each university after that will be $30 per instance. DA faxes documents and send them through Canada Post free for the student. If the student wishes us to use a courier service for speed, then the fee is $30. There are no other fees.
